If your trailer brakes feel weak or don't engage until you're already stopping hard, check the controller's gain setting first — most people leave it at factory default and never adjust for their actual trailer weight. Next check the breakaway switch pin is fully seated (a loose pin bleeds voltage) and inspect the 7-way connector pins for corrosion, especially the brake output pin. A controller reading full gain but still weak stopping power at the trailer usually means a wiring or connector issue, not the controller itself. What controller are you running, and is it weak everywhere or just under load?
