Awning motor humming but not extending

A motor that hums but doesn't move the awning arm is usually one of three things: a stripped internal gear (common failure point, doesn't self-repair), a jammed arm binding mechanically before the motor can move it, or a capacitor going bad on AC-motor units. Try manually moving the arm slightly by hand with power off — if it moves freely then binds again under power, that points to the motor itself rather than a mechanical jam. Which brand of awning, and does it do this every time or intermittently?
