Door latches that won't catch are almost always alignment, not a broken latch — road flex and towing torque shift door frames slightly over time. Check where the latch bolt actually lines up with the strike plate; if it's even 1/8 inch off, that's enough to cause intermittent catching. Shimming the strike plate or slightly adjusting the hinge side usually fixes it without replacing hardware. If the latch itself feels loose or gritty when you work it by hand, that's a different (and cheaper) fix. Does it happen more after towing or randomly?
