A converter (the unit that charges your battery and runs 12V loads off shore power) running hot to the touch with a burning smell isn't something to keep using — that's a real fire risk sign, not just a minor issue to monitor. Poor ventilation in the compartment, an undersized converter for your actual load, or a failing internal component can all cause this. If you smell anything burning, shut it off and don't power it back on until it's actually inspected. Is there an actual smell, or just warm to the touch?
